Drugstore Primers I’m In Love With

Howdy.

Let’s get to business (to defeat the Huns…awful joke…Mulan? Anyone? Bueller?)

I am here to report to you all about two primers that I have found at Target that I’m in love with. I’ll admit that when I first bought these that they just were sittin’ pretty on my desk but over the last month or so I have been alternating the between the two and can’t be bothered with anything else.

First up is Pixi’s Glow Mist. When I bought this I didn’t even know if I would ever use it but I was intrigued. One day after using my prescription retinol cream the nigh before, my chin and forehead were all flaky. My skin is super sensitive to retinol so I generally us the smallest amount and still see results but with the flakes. I sort of freaked out and so I quickly exfoliated to get rid of all the dead skin and I grabbed this Glow Mist to give me a boost. It did wonders. Since argan oil is a little bit thicker in its consistency, I thought it gave me a nice dewy look without putting on drops of oil. I think this provided a great canvas for me to work in foundation and other products as well as combat against potential dryness. Also, since we are well into spring here in the Northeast and the humidity is already starting up, I have been liking this mist instead of a hydrating serum. It does just enough to hit me with moisture without taking a long time to settle in. If you have oily skin that tends to be dehydrated but you air on the side of caution with moisture serums, give this a whirl! I can’t put it down. I have been even spritzing my face during the day if I feel dry.

The second primer in rotation is NYX’s Honey Dew Me Up. Ok. This stuff packs some serious longevity into my regimen. It’s a little sticky at first but sinks right in and smooths everything over. My blush looks so good all day long and I get this lovely glowing effect in areas like my forehead and fatty parts of my cheeks that give me that fully rested look. One of my favorite things about it is that when I rub it in, it’s very cooling so I think it also depuffs a little bit. The honey is antimicrobial and helps nourish at the same time. This is super gentle on my skin and I am slightly obsessed. The packaging is so cute and I just love the name of it – very Tarte and TooFaced-esque. The past few times that I have gone home to RI this goes into my Kate Spade travel bag.

Thanks you guys for reading! These budget friendly options are sure to not disappoint. If you are in the market for priming, I would give these two options a go. I think if you are a make up fanatic you should definitely spring for both since they are different!

The Current Wishlist

Happy Thursday to all of you! With spring here, (but here in the NE it does NOT feel like spring) I’ve got that itch to do a little bit of shopping **insert monkey emoji that is covering its mouth**. I ain’t gon’ lie, I did already purchase one of these items and cannot wait for it/them to arrive. I also received my 15% off for being a VIB at Sephora and am so friggen ecstatic about it. I will most certainly be making a trip to the Prudential Center this weekend for a little bit of some fun! See my wishlist below!!!!

Capture.PNG

The Sunday Riley Good Genes has been at the top of my list for awhile. After I purchased it in a value package with the Luna Oil I have been yearning for a full bottle. I just fell in love with it. It helped even out my skin texture on the tops of my cheek bones – which is where I seem to get get a lot of milia. It’s really potent so I know if and when I buy this, it will greatly help my complexion out. I think I favor this over the Luna Oil.

Banana Republic lace up pointed toe pumps. Ok! These are currently on sale for 40% off….get to it. These come in black, nude and this mint color. I bought the mint and cannot wait to wear them this summer. The lace up is just so sexy and I love the pointed toe…these will be great for nights when I need a pedicure but still need that hot ass shoe. The heel height is perfect me for me and are so versatile….jeans…pencil skirts….bodycon dresses…Also the mint will be a great pop of color! EEEEEEEeee!!! So in love. An extra bonus is that the reviews online said these were so comfortable. TIP: ALWAYS READ THE REVIEWS!!!!!!

Ok so this Marc Jacobs mascara has been on my wishlist for awhile. All the bloggers are going crazy over it and I have been lusting for it. I tried a sample, fell in love….simple as that. I recently bought the Bobbi Brown Smokey Lash mascara which I like, but I sort of want to get this MJ offering in my collection ASAP. It gives the most feathery but intense lashes!

These two Oribe products I have purchased numerous times. I currently don’t have the Dry Texturizing Spray in my possession and I miss it. I have just been using my Bumble Dry Shampoo but for those days where my hair doesn’t need dry shampoo but needs a little oomph – that’s when I grab the Dry Texturizing Spray. It’s light, gives my hair some ‘tude and it makes me SO happy.

The other Oribe product is the Dry Thickening Spray which I’m all out of. This is supposed to be for the middle of your strands and give some life to the hair. It does JUST that. I am currently on my third can. Oribe’s products are just top of the line….I have used their hair oil, shampoo and conditioner and now these sprays….You cannot go wrong. They make great gifts and last forever. A little does go a long way which is how I justify the steep price tag. If I had to choose between the texturizer and the thickening spray – if you are like me with thin ass hair, get the thickening spray! The best part about all of this – you can buy purse sizes of pretty much all the products so you can try them out and bring them with you on vacation.

Next up is the Kate Somerville Nourish Hydrating Firming Mist. I gotta say I am a sucker for marketing and need this ish. I love mists, essences, etc. right now and this stuff seems like it packs a punch. I also love Kate Somerville so I am willing to give this puppy a go.

Lastly we have my beloved Sephora Collection Face Masks. For 6 bucks you just can’t go wrong. They work, they’re fun and cheap. The two that are pictured above I haven’t tried yet. They recently redid the packaging and added a couple to their collection. The blue is for detoxifying and purifying and the the green is for nourishing and repairing. I want to go for these two because my skin does feel sort of clogged up and I have some acne marks that I want to clear up with the nourishing and repairing mask. These are so fun for a girls’ night in!

Thank you all for reading!!!  I hope you enjoyed what I am currently coveting. What are you current lusting over? There’s gotta be something!!!

My Essential Day to Night Transitional Makeup

Hello everyone and Happy Hump Day. I am actually coming to you live from my bed right now and as soon as I post this I will be off to sleep. Tonight’s blog post features my essentials to take your day time make up to night. My one cardinal rule, is to not bring too much. Now, I don’t ever carry makeup in my bag unless its like 20 lip glosses, so if I know I am heading out after work for drinks I make sure to bring only what I need.
FullSizeRender (14).jpg
First item is my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I use a combination of all three colors to fix my highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones. I also use this product to dot on the inner corners of my eyes. When the sun goes down and are you enjoying some cocktails, I think the more highlighter the better. It just gives makeup that X factor – like you are glowing from within. You can put as much of this powder on as you want and things never look cakey.
Of course in order to apply the highlighter I use a brush. Now this brush is from the Party Queen set and I actually bought this brush in a set. On Amazon I searched for Zoeva brushes and so I thought I had ordered Zoeva brushes but this brand of Party Queen came instead? I’m not sure if these are actually Zoeva or not… I am a little confused…however, I love this tapered brush (how many more times can I type brush in this post?). It applies perfectly and is super soft and great for smaller areas. Everyone needs something just like this that is directional and meant for powder.
Next is a little bit of concealer. Now this L’Oreal True Match concealer I featured is in the color 3-4-5 but now they have re-released it and I believe the color is just 4-5 now. I use this year round and have gone through sticks and sticks of these. By far the best drugstore concealer there is almost and its similar to a waxy pencil. I love the peachy tone of this so it is great for under eye bags and it blends like a dream. For those on a budget and for those who just want a bomb concealer that is easy to get ahold of and save some pennies – then this is a great match. I don’t have one negative thing to say about it.
Lastly I am talking about a lipstick by NYX. This is their Soft Matte Lip Cream in the color Istanbul. This is the perfect shade for me for when I go out. It’s nude sort of and just gives a really nice hue in all kinds of light. It is a little bit drying but I love the small size of it and how the color in the dimlight is just so subtle but defining. You can amp this up or bring it down. I tend to put some on my lips and then blot to make a stain, or I go all out and line my lips then put this over the top.
Hopefully you all have a little routine that works for you when transitioning from day to night! I will use any excuse to get a quick makeup bag together!

Week Recap

Happy Easter everybody! After being on hiatus this week I am back today to give you some updates on my life as well as post some favorites and my makeup look from the holiday.

I was up in Maine from Sunday to Thursday training for my new job which was so exhausting but so amazing. I met some people from all over the country and made some friends. We didn’t have training for our positions which was great. Since we were in Maine, I got to unplug and enjoy some fresh air and some amazing views. Friday I had to be in the office for my first official day of work which was exciting but also a little stressful. Since I will be in sales, and it is my first sales position I just want to successful and get into the swing of things. I am a little nervous about my spin schedule because I don’t want to give any of my classes up but feel that I may need to release one for the sake of my career.

Anyways – in my previous job I used to blog at work in my downtime and I am unsure if I will be able to do so with this new position…so the timing of my posts may be a little different. I will probably post later in the evening which I don’t mind because blogging helps me relax and is my creative safe place!

Below I have compiled a few things for everyone to read through. I have a few favorite things I want to share and today’s makeup look! I will be back this week with some updates and posts for you all. Spring is coming and I am so excited for new make up launches and the fashion! I am on the prowl for a cute crossbody bag for summer nights on the town…Furla has my eye… but my wallet is screaming “Hell no girl what are you thinking”

IMG_0823

Here’s my makeup look from today. I kept things smokey and simple. I smudged color on my upper and lower lash line and finished with a ton of mascara.

IMG_0824

See that highlight? Yea you can thank Champagne Pop for that. I am wearing NARS lip pencil in Bettina.

These bracelets I bought from Bauble Bar right after Christmas. These are so fun to pair with other costume jewelry. They are very comfortable to wear but the only issue is that they are already starting to tarnish so I try not to wash my hands when I wear them. These are great conversation pieces and give a little bit of attitude without being too in ya face!

FullSizeRender (11).jpg

HOLD THE PHONE. I bought these just out of interest. I found these at CVS and always walk by them and think “I wonder if these even work”…so I said to myself, “For 13 bucks I am diving in”. They are so great!!!! I use them every other night and they do just the trick. They help refine my skin’s texture without too much exfoliation. The best part is that I haven’t experienced any irritation. I am interested in other parts of the line but  I think if you are on a budget these are a total must!

FullSizeRender (12).jpg

Recently I decided to give my nails a break and so I have been doing my nails instead of getting gel. I wasn’t missing doing my own nails, but I did feel like my nails needed a rest. Also, until I start making my commission at work, I figured I would cut down on costs a little bit and just do them myself. I will admit, I do like doing my nails and I am drawn to nudes because if they chip it can be a little harder to tell. Also, nudes are ALWAYS safe and professional and can be a little more intriguing than trendy colors (not saying I don’t do those too) because they’re simple. On my favorites is Essie’s East Hampton Cottage, featured below. In the photo I included my go-to nail products. If you don’t buff your nails, you can experience chips sooner than expected and a good base and top coat are essential!

Well thank you all for reading! I hope this post was saturated with some good content for you all to satisfy your beauty cravings! I will see you this week at some point. I hope everyone has a great week.

The Triple Threat Eyeshadow

Good morning everybody. This week I have flocked to the same three items for eyeshadow. I tend to favor the number 3 with my make-up now that I think about it. I always use three mascaras, three cheek products (bronzer, highlight and blush) and now three eyeshadows. Even my soccer jersey was number 3. ANYWAYS – this is all super irrelevant since no one probably cares.

IMG_0720

My thought process behind the trinity of products is that I like a cream as a base, a powder on top to set and another powder for dimension.

IMG_0718

IMG_0719 (1)

From left to right: African Violets, Saint Taupe and Vintage Selection.

Cream as a base…

I use MAC’s Paint Pot in Vintage Selection. This color is everything. It’s silver, purple, shimmery, with pretty flecks and almost metallic. For any color eyes you cannot go wrong with this product. I know MAC’s Paint Pots are totally hit or miss but I think for the spring Vintage Selection is just perfect. It creates some intrigue to the eyes and is perfect for day. On my brown eyes it comes up a bit purple but changes in different lighting. I smudge this all over my lid  and a little over my crease and take it under the eye with a smudger brush. This alone is very pretty.

Powder on top to enhance and set…

Satin Taupe is perfect to lay over this shade. When I first purchased Satin Taupe I asked the MAC girl to suggest a good cream shadow for underneath. She marched right over and grabbed Vintage Selection. I never wear one without the other. I take Satin Taupe on a dense, flat brush and push it over the top of the cream and also take the same smudger brush and run it along the lower lash line. Having the powder on top gives it almost a mermaid feel – super pigmented and jaw dropping from every angle.

A deeper powder to top it off…

Laura Mercier’s African Violets is the most beautiful deep purple that I place right in the center of my lid and on the outskirts of my lower lashline. This helps pick up the purple hues in the other two products and creates this super saturated smokey eye. You can leave African Violets out, but I do love how this amps the look up a little bit. I think its so pretty on the bottom eyelid and is refreshing compared to a heavy brown or black.

These colors make me so happy and I love shopping my stash. I haven’t worn these in awhile and since I started wearing them on Monday, I haven’t been able to stop. I also haven’t worn eyeliner and have used this trifecta instead to create smoke and definition. I have been wearing my more purple blushes like Outpsoken by Marc Jacobs and Well Dressed by MAC with a lot of pink highlighter and nude gloss. What I also love about this eye look is that it transitions beautifully to night without much upkeep or need for enhancing!

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great weekend,

Charlotte Tilbury Haul

Since I went to NYC in October and visited Bergdorf Goodman I have been obsessing over buying myself some Tilbury makeup bits. Last week I just caved and made quite the order on Nordstrom.com. Keep reading for the full review…

FullSizeRender (4).jpg

I’ll start with the mascara. Her Full Fat Lashes has interested me for quite some time. Whenever she uses it in her makeup tutorials I always gush at how the model’s lashes look. Plus CT is quite the marketing guru for her products. The tag line for this is that it does five things in one tube – separate, define, volumize, curl and drama. Because I’m always on the hunt for the next best mascara for my straight and pointy lashes, I ordered this with joy….however…I am returning it. NOT ENOUGH VOLUME OR CURL OR DRAMA FOR ME. I think I am definitely in the minority of people who would return this, but it just didn’t do it for me. For $27 bucks I could take my money and head to CVS and get L’Oreal Million Lashes or Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara. Kind of a bummer.

FullSizeRender (5).jpg

Moving on – Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock N Kohl Eyeliner Barbarella Brown. From reading the reviews online and sitting in front of the computer for hours on end watching her signature cat-eye, feline flick looks I couldn’t help but order the Barbarella Brown eyeliner. When she creates that super-tight winged look on blue eyes, I instantly want to order fake-blue contacts and lock myself in my room perfecting my skills. I will say – I was deceived again with this product. When I wore it the other night on my lower lash line, it was too much for me…It is a very deep, dark brown that is still a few notches away from black but did not even hold a candle to my MAC Costa Riche eyeliner. Yea this CT offering applies easily but blending it is a total BIOTCH and the color just didn’t sing to me. I will say the lasting power was 100% there but I couldn’t get passed the un-blendability. I will ALSO be returning this.

FullSizeRender (6)

In NYC I bought one of her cream eyeshadows in Bette which is a super rich, gold that stays put all day. The pigment is untouched by other brands and looks good on everyone. I decided for this haul to try her Color Chameleon stick in Champagne Diamonds. I have worn it the past three days and it is definitely more of a night feature. There is shimmer in it…and I mean glitter as well…Like flecks of glitter. The color payoff is there but the glitter for me is just TOO MUCH. Also, if you blend too hard with your fingers, the product slips around and creases so you need a very light touch or blend it with another color to go over the top. I think if you have big eyes and work in an environment where this sort of glittery/flirty look is acceptable…then go for it. I would honestly rather stick with my By Terry Ombre Blackstars or my Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. Unfortunately – this will be returned as well.

FullSizeRender (7).jpg

At the bottom of this swipe here, you can see more of the silver flecks stand out.

Now on to the stuff I LOVED right away. I bought the blush and the lipstick in a two-piece set. These were hands down the best products of the haul. I had small expectations for the blush. Because my collection is quite large, I was honestly ready to return it but it wow’d me. CT’s slogan “Swish and Pop” is so clever. On the perimeter you have a pretty, dusty pink/mauve with a darker shade in the middle. Mixed together the color is beautiful and I can honestly say I don’t have a blush color like this in my collection. It isn’t too chalky and has a little bit of shimmer running through it. I love the name as well – First Love.

FullSizeRender (9).jpg

The blush came with the lipstick Nude Kate which I have been coveting for quite some time. I own Penelope Pink which is such a great nude but the Nude Kate color is a little bit more peachy and just glides on. They smell just like MAC lipsticks but are more durable and have better color payoff. Nude Kate with the First Love blush – God that was such a brilliant pairing! If you are new CT and don’t know what to get – indulge in this set. You will not regret it!!!

FullSizeRender (8).jpg

My takeaways: I think part of the reason for my dissatisfaction with some of these products is that there are no Charlotte Tilbury counters anywhere besides Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. You have to purchase everything online which is so ridiculous. Her products would do so well in department stores across the country since they are not too expensive but are very Hollywood glamour. Her branding is SO unique and she is quite brilliant so it is frustrating to not see her products in the flesh. I think if I was at a CT counter I would have been able to try the products I am now returning!

If you don’t know where to start with her range, get a lipstick! You’ll fall in love. Also her cream eyeshadows are just UNTOUCHED and last forever. If you visit her website you can watch videos of her making up models with her “iconic looks”. There is something for everyone!

I hope some of you found this helpful and I could help steer you in the right direction!

An Ode to the Beauty Blender

I was pretty late to the party with the Beauty Blender trend. I always just thought ‘yea, yea a pink sponge…who cares’. NO. I bought my first one about 4 months and just grab it before any other brush when applying face makeup. I typically use it for foundation and concealer but recently I purchased another sponge with a flat edge and a rounded bottom. I have been using this blue sponge from Sephora Collection for blending concealer and applying highlighter. I prefer to use these wet and everyday is a good skin day when I grab these. The Sephora Collection sponge feels the same to the touch as the Beauty Blender and I actually thought it was from the BB range. Sephora Collection has a few of these sponges that I would love to sort of collect – if you will. I have been gravitating towards sponges because it is just such a thin, beautiful layer of product and if you want more – you can absolutely build. I think my next purchase will be the Real Techniques sponge because I have heard these are very good dupes and are a fraction of the price!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thank you for reading and I’ll be back next week!

LORAC Nude Necessities

This weekend I made a trip to Ulta to see my long lost brand – Lorac. Since Lorac is not in Sephora anymore I always feel the need to make a Lorac purchase when I go to Ulta. I have a Lorac palette which is the Unzipped offering and I am borderline obsessed, so when I saw this sexy, sleek Nude Necessities, I just had to have it. I love light browns because they are great for everything. I also liked how a lot of these were quite cool toned. I would say they are not as pigmented as my unzipped palette but the array of choices does not displease. These are great for day time and look lovely layered over a cream eyeshadow. Even though some are described as matte online, they all really do have this dimensional look to them. My favorite: The lower left hand corner…it’s got some shimmer and dimension. I have really been enjoying wearing it during the day.

The one thing I do loathe about this palette is that the names of the colors stink! Nothing sexy like “Foxy Brown”. The packaging doesn’t even include names, you have to go to the Ulta website to see them so I didn’t even bother including them but I swatched each row from left to right on my arms. I also included a couple of lighting options to see the colors in.

If you are in the market for some nice browns without breaking the bank ($30) look no further than right here!

Current Wishlist

Good morning,

I have a wishlist. I need to share it. There are a lot of things out there right now that are calling my name and I think I need to share them with all of you not because this is a safe place to communicate wants and desires but because I need some feedback.

Some of these things I have tried and will be purchasing, but others I need help on…

HERE GOES

NOW, I recently received samples of the Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm and I am obsessed. I used it once and I just know it is my favorite cleansing balm of all time. That is high up on the priorities of my wishlist. It smells like  Lipsmacker and is so hydrating.

The other thing I have tried is the Laura Mercier Candeglow Soft Luminous Foundation…I had a really hard time finding my color match. In Sephora I picked up Ecru which seemed to work for my paler winter skin however online it said that it was for light skins with cool undertones? HUH? I am a little bit cool but I have quite olivey skin. Has anyone tried this? I loved the formulation but am wondering if I could go a shade or two darker…I am a little afraid of my local Sephora lady so I have confided in you all.

Jaclyn Hill recently discussed this new Becca foundation. I feel like it is literally the foundation form of the Backlight primer. This looks like it will give a really dewy finish and help glow everything up. I am highly interested in this and would probably purchase this over the LM if it is better. I want both but know that life does not work that way, or does it?

Moving on with this Makeup For Ever Ultra HD concealer. NOW, since I turned 25 I swear I all of a sudden see these fine lines under my eyes and my skin is just crap right now. I look ruddy, feel ruddy and flat. I currently have an outbreak of milia on the tops of my cheekbones that look GOD AWFUL when I have highlighter on. I know these are first world problems here but WHAT-EVER. Every time I use my under eye concealer my circles look more pronounced. I know this can be because my concealer is too light…so I am sort of looking into this MUFE one. They have this concealer in correcting shades and concealing shades and I am most interested in the correcting ones. This is $27 vs. the Bobbi Brown Correctors which are $40. Does anyone have both and have an opinion? I use a super hydrating eye cream and think I just need a better concealer…any thoughts or insight would be helpful.

Lastly – LuLuLemon sports tops. I will preface this that my cannons are a humble size of 32F. Yes. You best believe when I work out I go all in with back and shoulder exercises to keep my posture looking like Lisa Kudrow from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (come on the magnet scene is so hilarious but oh so mean). So, my question is – do you girls find that these tops are supportive? I do have other LuLu tops that have a built in bra but I always wear another sorts bra under them. Do you think that if I wore another sports bra under this it would just become a bulge-y, back fat issue? HELP! I’m desperate for something hip and airy. I am leaning more towards the one on the left because I think there could be more natural support…however, I think my additional sports bra on the right could look less out of place. Just to preface this for you all – I am 5ft tall, I weight 13o lbs and I wear a size 4 in the tops and the pants.

FEEDBACK. PLEASE. GO.

Bite Lipstick – Retsina

In my Monday post I included a picture of my current nude lipstick favorite – Retsina by Bite. It looks much more red flesh tone in the bullet but when I put it on, it turns my lips into this pinky-nude delight. I love wearing this lipstick even to the gym. Its hydrating, never leaves my lips feathery and especially looks great with a smokey eye.

I have other lipsticks by Bite, and they are so saturated. The color range is also impressive. Their twist up, crayon like pencils are amazing for application. Since I have thin lips, they make it very easy to get that color on and get out the door! Even their matte selections are quite satin-y with a hint of shine and are very comfortable. If you do not own a Bite lippy – what are you waiting for?

Here is my favorite look to wear with Retsina!
