Charlotte Tilbury Haul

Since I went to NYC in October and visited Bergdorf Goodman I have been obsessing over buying myself some Tilbury makeup bits. Last week I just caved and made quite the order on Keep reading for the full review…

I’ll start with the mascara. Her Full Fat Lashes has interested me for quite some time. Whenever she uses it in her makeup tutorials I always gush at how the model’s lashes look. Plus CT is quite the marketing guru for her products. The tag line for this is that it does five things in one tube – separate, define, volumize, curl and drama. Because I’m always on the hunt for the next best mascara for my straight and pointy lashes, I ordered this with joy….however…I am returning it. NOT ENOUGH VOLUME OR CURL OR DRAMA FOR ME. I think I am definitely in the minority of people who would return this, but it just didn’t do it for me. For $27 bucks I could take my money and head to CVS and get L’Oreal Million Lashes or Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara. Kind of a bummer.

Moving on – Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock N Kohl Eyeliner Barbarella Brown. From reading the reviews online and sitting in front of the computer for hours on end watching her signature cat-eye, feline flick looks I couldn’t help but order the Barbarella Brown eyeliner. When she creates that super-tight winged look on blue eyes, I instantly want to order fake-blue contacts and lock myself in my room perfecting my skills. I will say – I was deceived again with this product. When I wore it the other night on my lower lash line, it was too much for me…It is a very deep, dark brown that is still a few notches away from black but did not even hold a candle to my MAC Costa Riche eyeliner. Yea this CT offering applies easily but blending it is a total BIOTCH and the color just didn’t sing to me. I will say the lasting power was 100% there but I couldn’t get passed the un-blendability. I will ALSO be returning this.

In NYC I bought one of her cream eyeshadows in Bette which is a super rich, gold that stays put all day. The pigment is untouched by other brands and looks good on everyone. I decided for this haul to try her Color Chameleon stick in Champagne Diamonds. I have worn it the past three days and it is definitely more of a night feature. There is shimmer in it…and I mean glitter as well…Like flecks of glitter. The color payoff is there but the glitter for me is just TOO MUCH. Also, if you blend too hard with your fingers, the product slips around and creases so you need a very light touch or blend it with another color to go over the top. I think if you have big eyes and work in an environment where this sort of glittery/flirty look is acceptable…then go for it. I would honestly rather stick with my By Terry Ombre Blackstars or my Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. Unfortunately – this will be returned as well.

At the bottom of this swipe here, you can see more of the silver flecks stand out.

Now on to the stuff I LOVED right away. I bought the blush and the lipstick in a two-piece set. These were hands down the best products of the haul. I had small expectations for the blush. Because my collection is quite large, I was honestly ready to return it but it wow’d me. CT’s slogan “Swish and Pop” is so clever. On the perimeter you have a pretty, dusty pink/mauve with a darker shade in the middle. Mixed together the color is beautiful and I can honestly say I don’t have a blush color like this in my collection. It isn’t too chalky and has a little bit of shimmer running through it. I love the name as well – First Love.

The blush came with the lipstick Nude Kate which I have been coveting for quite some time. I own Penelope Pink which is such a great nude but the Nude Kate color is a little bit more peachy and just glides on. They smell just like MAC lipsticks but are more durable and have better color payoff. Nude Kate with the First Love blush – God that was such a brilliant pairing! If you are new CT and don’t know what to get – indulge in this set. You will not regret it!!!

My takeaways: I think part of the reason for my dissatisfaction with some of these products is that there are no Charlotte Tilbury counters anywhere besides Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. You have to purchase everything online which is so ridiculous. Her products would do so well in department stores across the country since they are not too expensive but are very Hollywood glamour. Her branding is SO unique and she is quite brilliant so it is frustrating to not see her products in the flesh. I think if I was at a CT counter I would have been able to try the products I am now returning!

If you don’t know where to start with her range, get a lipstick! You’ll fall in love. Also her cream eyeshadows are just UNTOUCHED and last forever. If you visit her website you can watch videos of her making up models with her “iconic looks”. There is something for everyone!

I hope some of you found this helpful and I could help steer you in the right direction!

Bite Lipstick – Retsina

In my Monday post I included a picture of my current nude lipstick favorite – Retsina by Bite. It looks much more red flesh tone in the bullet but when I put it on, it turns my lips into this pinky-nude delight. I love wearing this lipstick even to the gym. Its hydrating, never leaves my lips feathery and especially looks great with a smokey eye.

I have other lipsticks by Bite, and they are so saturated. The color range is also impressive. Their twist up, crayon like pencils are amazing for application. Since I have thin lips, they make it very easy to get that color on and get out the door! Even their matte selections are quite satin-y with a hint of shine and are very comfortable. If you do not own a Bite lippy – what are you waiting for?

Here is my favorite look to wear with Retsina!

Monday Blues

Lazy but productive Sundays are the best types of Sundays. Throwing in a load of laundry between Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes is my definition of getting $#@* done without the whole “let me blast music and clean the absolute crud out of everything and ditch the workout since THIS will be my cardio”….CRINGE…that was not what I was about to do yesterday. Subtle cleaning was my aim. I cleaned up my room a little bit, dusted my picture frames and Windexed my glass trays…the devil is in the details.

Even though I slept in, had a nap, did some yoga and was an all around sloth – I am still so tired! GOD, MONDAYS JUST ABSOLUTELY KILL ME! I would love to be able to work four, ten hour days and then have Mondays off just to amp myself up for the week. Working on a Monday vs. Friday is much less appealing. On Friday you still have a touch more momentum.

I hope everyone has a great coming week…I only have two photos…I am very lame. I will be back this week with some good stuff. PROMISE!

Hill XO

I found this photo on Pinterest to show you all my favorite yoga pose at the moment – Frog. It is VERY INTENSE and you feel quite vulnerable. I do this after my workout or after my practice and stay in it for about a minute. The blocks are detrimental since they help keep the upper body open and aligned. Make sure your knees make a 90 degree angle so you feel those inner thighs and pelvic bowl release a bit. Do this right before bed…when you come out of the pose, it feels amazing.

My current lip favorite. This is much more nude than what it looks like on the lips. Bite makes such great colors and formulations. This is “Retsina”. I will try to feature a make up look with it this week!

Happy Friday to one and all! I hope everyone’s weeks went by quickly…With Monday being a holiday , four day weeks sometimes tend to drag and be extra busy. After being in NYC, being exposed to my boyfriend who was sick as well as my roommate, I inevitably also came down with a cold. It was not one that knocked me on my a$$ or anything, but definitely one that was JUST SO ANNOYING. At least today I seem to have more of a productive cough but I still feel under the weather. However, here are a few things this week that I am currently loving.

This ring I bought from Bauble Bar is so simple but I have reached for it almost everyday since I bought it. I think tortoise is so classic and this square shape makes it unique. Since I have been wearing a lot of black, this ring just feels like the right choice. It was only $18! STEAL.

C.O. Bigelow Cold and Flu Soak ~ I picked this up in NYC and thought “Well I know I am going to get sick soon so I might as well buy this”…and POOF! Just like that, here I am with a cold. I used this in my bath last night. This helped me feel so much better. Just when I thought the menthol and eucalyptis scent was dissolved, I turned on the jets and it was restored. This stuff just keeps on giving. If you don’t like a lot of sud action, then this is nice. The liquid is thin and I love the color of it. I highly recommend this, but an easier alternative to get a hold may be the Kiss My Face bath soak. It’s very similar and a little bit cheaper.

Even though I kept felt worse as the day went on, I forced myself to head out for a walk after work. I didn’t start walking until almost 6:00, but the sunset was beautiful. Here are a couple of pictures. The sky went from pastels to this firey orange and blue. The crescent moon was stunning. By the end of my walk, I felt better and felt so relaxed. When you’re sick it is so important to listen to your body. I knew I couldn’t have handled a run or an intense lifting session, but I knew the walk would help me take my mind off being sick. In the fall I love being outside at night. The cool air does so much for me!

Here is my lip trio for the week. Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk followed by Revlon’s Silver City pink for a little bit of a pink frosted pop and then finished with Rimmel’s Stay Glossy Lip Gloss in Non Stop Glamour.

Monday Blues

I hope everyone had a great weekend! As always, today I am struggling a little bit. I whooped it up a little too much on Saturday night and was cursed with a lovely hangover yesterday. However, I literally faked it until I made it. I told myself I was not going to sit in my bed all day and sit in my own self loathing. It was the first weekend I stayed in Boston THE WHOLE WEEKEND since the beginning of July, so a night out was needed I guess you could say. Yesterday, my roommate, her friend and I had a lovely meal at D’Angelo’s (so classy, I KNOW) and stopped in to a Target for some Starbucks. Later I met up with my mom in Chestnut Hill for a Blue Mercury date and oysters. Later I returned home for a marathon game of Sorry! (literally so fun…I still struggle with the rules and read every card which pisses everyone off but I don’t care. I am a slow learner but then NEVER forget)…I thought I did more but I guess I really didn’t. I hope everyone’s week went well. I know that with having Monday off that four day week was great! Here are some pics of my week!

On Being a Nudist…

I wish I was one of those girls who reached for a bright lipstick more often than for a nude option. Of course I have a handful of bright lipstick options, but maybe 1 out of 5 times I actually wear it. I am a nude girl to the core. When nude toned pieces came more into a fashion a  few years ago, it was an instant love affair. I love nude nail polish (Holla atcha girl if you love Adore-a-Ball by Essie) and I am an absolute sucker for a tan, v-neck, long sleeved sweater. Partner the nail polish, the sweater and jean shorts with a nude lip and I feel like a flesh-toned fantasy. Needless to say, I have narrowed down three of my favorite nude lip colors to share with you all. They are all so different (remember when Anne Hathaway from Devil Wears Prada laughed at the belts being ‘so different’ during the run through? Then she got that verbal beating from Miranda Priestly? CLASSIC). Don’t laugh people, these lip colors are in fact unique and different.

Chanel Rouge CoCo Shine – Boy

There are not enough words for this one. I keep this with me at all times. I tend to have at least three lip colors in my purse but if I ever need something a little more moisturizing I grab this. Of the three lipsticks, this one is the most sheer and is my perfect ‘your lips but better’ color. It has little bit of sheen to it and feels so light on the lips. This is my go to lip after the gym and if I need go run errands, meet a friend, etc. (left on the moving hand)

MAC Lustre Lipstick – High Tea

The most gilded options of the three. A little more on the gold side than Boy. It’s great for a night out and can complete any peachy makeup look. I tend to use this when I use MAC’s Woodwinked or All That Glitters with a little cat eye to complete the gold, shimmery effect. It is a little bit thicker than Boy but is not long lasting, but very easy to apply. Plus MAC lipsticks all smell like heaven so I don’t ever mind reapplying this. (middle)

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter  – Creme Brulee

When these came out, I went and purchased almost every shade. The other shade of this that I used to wear like it was going out of style was Creamsicle. However, I do prefer Creme Brulee. This formula is the thickest of the three and has little more of a brown-y feel. It is great at coating the lips, giving a nice high-shine look and feels a little more substantial. Like the previous two, this one is convenient as well. Revlon hit it out of the park with this range, so if this color doesn’t interest you, I guarantee another one would. (right)

Here are a few photos for you all to compare the descriptions too. Since I am quite olive toned, these may not work for everyone so these are not universal options here, but in all of the product lines from which these products come from, I can assure you there is something for everyone.
