The Pamper I’m Doing Tonight

Happy Thursday! Only one more day until the weekend. Hopefully all of you have made it through your week successfully and have had equal parts work and play. My last day at my job was yesterday so I decided to head home to RI for a couple of days off to be with my boyfriend and family before I head up to Maine for training for the week. I needed this break. With daylight savings and the sort of crappy weather I have felt really rundown hence this post for you all today. Yesterday when I was packing I had the brilliant idea to do a really nice spa night for myself, so I rounded up all the products for you all to see that I am planning on using this evening!

FullSizeRender (9).jpg

Since I will probably start with a bath and I don’t have make up on, I will just wash my face with my Caudalie Cleansing Milk sample. I would love to buy a full size of this since it is so gentle. After I get out of the bath, I will tone with Pixi’s Glow Tonic (one of the best in the biz) to help exfoliate and balance my skin’s Ph. Once my skin dries, I will use my Sephora sheet mask for anti-aging and smoothing. I love the Sephora masks. I typically grab the perfecting and brightening (light pink) but I wanted to try the orange one. I feel like I need a little lift if you know what I mean. After I bask in that wet, gloopy mess, I will use my May Coop Raw Sauce as an essence and hydrating toner. A large bottle of this is only $40 and I think the world of this stuff. It feels so cooling on the skin and is almost like a jelly serum! This is a great Korean offering. As soon as my skin feels more tacky than wet, I will take a couple of drops of my Luna Sleeping Oil and mix it with my Glam Glow hydrating mask. Writing all of this into a post has made me want to head upstairs and get crackin’ right this second!

The last item I have in the picture that I haven’t talked about is this CAVIAR Repair Lengthening Hair and Scalp Elixir. I have had this sample for awhile and have been looking for the right time to start it. I will have to report back! I am a sucker for anything that promises stronger strands!

Thanks everyone for reading. I hope this post has inspired some of you to maybe cancel your Thursday night plans and opt for a DIY spa treatment!

Easy Spring Makeup

With the Northeast experiencing some awesome spring temperatures as of late, how can a girl not be inspired to pick up makeup with that fresh bloom effect? This past week I started grabbing my very pink blushes and keeping my base fresh. Below is the routine.

FullSizeRender (10).jpg

The make up look under work lighting. Quite different than below…

The makeup under my make up lights this morning. MUCH different than at work

I have started to forgo base and just use concealer. I have just started to crave a lighter base and  use up some of my concealers. Also with daylight savings, I always take awhile to get into the swing of things so I tend to sleep in longer and take less time for my makeup.

I have been using my Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer. It’s so good for under eyes. It blends like a dream and has great coverage. It’s pretty thin and you can apply as much as you want without creasing. When I finish this stuff, I will definitely repurchase. This tube is a little light for me but does just the trick.

After I apply my concealer I apply mascara to the top and bottom and filling in my brows with Anastasia Brow Whiz in Soft Brown. This way I have some definition to my eye area without blending in eye shadow and using liner. Sometimes all you need is a little mascara! The mascara I used was my Bobbi Brown Smoky Lash, which I didn’t picture here because I wanted this post to be mostly about skin.

After the eyes – I move on my to cheeks (MY FAVORITE PART OF MY MAKEUP). I started with Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder and just went to town with the hollows of my cheeks, temples, and jawline. When I wear a pink blush I need some warmth and I have been grabbing this powder.

Following the contouring, I have been using my NARS blush in Mata Hari to achieve this really pink, fresh-look. It is quite pink and can be a little intimidating if you aren’t really a blush person. I tend to take risks with my blush because I have a full face and lack in other areas like having full lips or big eyes so I really gravitate towards colorful cheeks. This stuff is so pigmented so you obviously need a very small amount. NARS blushes are so easy to blend so even if you put too much on, you’re not doomed.

For a final touch, I used my Hourglass palette with three powders that can be used to highlight or set. I used the color in the middle just for the tops of my cheek bones for a little glow but I didn’t set the makeup. I wanted to keep things very glowy and just let my face oils emerge throughout the day. Also because NARS blushes are powder, they can go on a little chalky so a light hand and faith in your own oils can help the color as the day goes on.

Thank you everyone for reading. I hope that with spring well on its way this can inspire some of you do ditch the matte looks and jump into something girly and fun…not to mention SUPER EASY!!!!!

The Triple Threat Eyeshadow

Good morning everybody. This week I have flocked to the same three items for eyeshadow. I tend to favor the number 3 with my make-up now that I think about it. I always use three mascaras, three cheek products (bronzer, highlight and blush) and now three eyeshadows. Even my soccer jersey was number 3. ANYWAYS – this is all super irrelevant since no one probably cares.

My thought process behind the trinity of products is that I like a cream as a base, a powder on top to set and another powder for dimension.

IMG_0719 (1)

From left to right: African Violets, Saint Taupe and Vintage Selection.

Cream as a base…

I use MAC’s Paint Pot in Vintage Selection. This color is everything. It’s silver, purple, shimmery, with pretty flecks and almost metallic. For any color eyes you cannot go wrong with this product. I know MAC’s Paint Pots are totally hit or miss but I think for the spring Vintage Selection is just perfect. It creates some intrigue to the eyes and is perfect for day. On my brown eyes it comes up a bit purple but changes in different lighting. I smudge this all over my lid  and a little over my crease and take it under the eye with a smudger brush. This alone is very pretty.

Powder on top to enhance and set…

Satin Taupe is perfect to lay over this shade. When I first purchased Satin Taupe I asked the MAC girl to suggest a good cream shadow for underneath. She marched right over and grabbed Vintage Selection. I never wear one without the other. I take Satin Taupe on a dense, flat brush and push it over the top of the cream and also take the same smudger brush and run it along the lower lash line. Having the powder on top gives it almost a mermaid feel – super pigmented and jaw dropping from every angle.

A deeper powder to top it off…

Laura Mercier’s African Violets is the most beautiful deep purple that I place right in the center of my lid and on the outskirts of my lower lashline. This helps pick up the purple hues in the other two products and creates this super saturated smokey eye. You can leave African Violets out, but I do love how this amps the look up a little bit. I think its so pretty on the bottom eyelid and is refreshing compared to a heavy brown or black.

These colors make me so happy and I love shopping my stash. I haven’t worn these in awhile and since I started wearing them on Monday, I haven’t been able to stop. I also haven’t worn eyeliner and have used this trifecta instead to create smoke and definition. I have been wearing my more purple blushes like Outpsoken by Marc Jacobs and Well Dressed by MAC with a lot of pink highlighter and nude gloss. What I also love about this eye look is that it transitions beautifully to night without much upkeep or need for enhancing!

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great weekend,

Charlotte Tilbury Haul

Since I went to NYC in October and visited Bergdorf Goodman I have been obsessing over buying myself some Tilbury makeup bits. Last week I just caved and made quite the order on Keep reading for the full review…

FullSizeRender (4).jpg

I’ll start with the mascara. Her Full Fat Lashes has interested me for quite some time. Whenever she uses it in her makeup tutorials I always gush at how the model’s lashes look. Plus CT is quite the marketing guru for her products. The tag line for this is that it does five things in one tube – separate, define, volumize, curl and drama. Because I’m always on the hunt for the next best mascara for my straight and pointy lashes, I ordered this with joy….however…I am returning it. NOT ENOUGH VOLUME OR CURL OR DRAMA FOR ME. I think I am definitely in the minority of people who would return this, but it just didn’t do it for me. For $27 bucks I could take my money and head to CVS and get L’Oreal Million Lashes or Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara. Kind of a bummer.

FullSizeRender (5).jpg

Moving on – Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock N Kohl Eyeliner Barbarella Brown. From reading the reviews online and sitting in front of the computer for hours on end watching her signature cat-eye, feline flick looks I couldn’t help but order the Barbarella Brown eyeliner. When she creates that super-tight winged look on blue eyes, I instantly want to order fake-blue contacts and lock myself in my room perfecting my skills. I will say – I was deceived again with this product. When I wore it the other night on my lower lash line, it was too much for me…It is a very deep, dark brown that is still a few notches away from black but did not even hold a candle to my MAC Costa Riche eyeliner. Yea this CT offering applies easily but blending it is a total BIOTCH and the color just didn’t sing to me. I will say the lasting power was 100% there but I couldn’t get passed the un-blendability. I will ALSO be returning this.

FullSizeRender (6)

In NYC I bought one of her cream eyeshadows in Bette which is a super rich, gold that stays put all day. The pigment is untouched by other brands and looks good on everyone. I decided for this haul to try her Color Chameleon stick in Champagne Diamonds. I have worn it the past three days and it is definitely more of a night feature. There is shimmer in it…and I mean glitter as well…Like flecks of glitter. The color payoff is there but the glitter for me is just TOO MUCH. Also, if you blend too hard with your fingers, the product slips around and creases so you need a very light touch or blend it with another color to go over the top. I think if you have big eyes and work in an environment where this sort of glittery/flirty look is acceptable…then go for it. I would honestly rather stick with my By Terry Ombre Blackstars or my Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. Unfortunately – this will be returned as well.

FullSizeRender (7).jpg

At the bottom of this swipe here, you can see more of the silver flecks stand out.

Now on to the stuff I LOVED right away. I bought the blush and the lipstick in a two-piece set. These were hands down the best products of the haul. I had small expectations for the blush. Because my collection is quite large, I was honestly ready to return it but it wow’d me. CT’s slogan “Swish and Pop” is so clever. On the perimeter you have a pretty, dusty pink/mauve with a darker shade in the middle. Mixed together the color is beautiful and I can honestly say I don’t have a blush color like this in my collection. It isn’t too chalky and has a little bit of shimmer running through it. I love the name as well – First Love.

FullSizeRender (9).jpg

The blush came with the lipstick Nude Kate which I have been coveting for quite some time. I own Penelope Pink which is such a great nude but the Nude Kate color is a little bit more peachy and just glides on. They smell just like MAC lipsticks but are more durable and have better color payoff. Nude Kate with the First Love blush – God that was such a brilliant pairing! If you are new CT and don’t know what to get – indulge in this set. You will not regret it!!!

FullSizeRender (8).jpg

My takeaways: I think part of the reason for my dissatisfaction with some of these products is that there are no Charlotte Tilbury counters anywhere besides Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. You have to purchase everything online which is so ridiculous. Her products would do so well in department stores across the country since they are not too expensive but are very Hollywood glamour. Her branding is SO unique and she is quite brilliant so it is frustrating to not see her products in the flesh. I think if I was at a CT counter I would have been able to try the products I am now returning!

If you don’t know where to start with her range, get a lipstick! You’ll fall in love. Also her cream eyeshadows are just UNTOUCHED and last forever. If you visit her website you can watch videos of her making up models with her “iconic looks”. There is something for everyone!

I hope some of you found this helpful and I could help steer you in the right direction!

Monday Blues

I hope everyone in the Northeast enjoyed another beautiful winter weekend…cold and sunshine. I just love it! 35 degrees for me just makes me feel so alive and it is just SUCH great sleeping weather. I actually have had some difficulty staying asleep lately and the colder than normal temps I think help me. I am shamefully a nude sleeper because I just GET TOO HOT. I would like to think this is because I am in good shape but it could “just be me”. I also always have to pee in the middle of night which is definitely attributed to the 5-6 liters of water I drink a day!

But anyways! This week I have a couple of good posts planned for you all that I think you all will enjoy! 🙂

Before I start my new job I am going to try to spend a little extra time on myself (and probably some money) so I will hopefully be getting some more substantial posts to slip into your feeds! I have only a couple of things for you all to nosh on today.

I found this one very interesting article from I have really taken a liking to this website because it really covers everything in fun, original articles. Anyone of any age, fitness level or fitness interest can find something here that can speak to them. The link I included is so interesting and speaks about how fat loss can be linked to the quality and quantity of your sleep, how more cardio does not mean more weight loss and ultimately how your food cravings can be impacted by your workout routine. I clicked on this because I will be honest – I am trying to lose weight but I STRUGGLE. I have no more than 6 drinks a week (that’s even a stretch), I teach spin three nights a week and I eat MOSTLY healthy…but that back fat and pooch still hang around. I do think that my amount of spinning plays a role because its such a calorie burner but then I am starving – like so friggen hungry after class. I wish I could lift more, but finding the time is SO difficult when you work 40 hours a week, are in grad school, are balancing family and a long distance relationship and are already at the gym for 45 minutes sweating your ass off… I need to revamp my schedule and find out how to get in more strength and make it to actual yoga classes without doing them at my home! I am determined to cut some of the bloat and look good this summer!

A much needed dirty martini after work on Friday

Have a great week

The Affordable Cushion Foundation

This is the foundation for you if you…

A. Have a small obsession with the normal L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation

B. Are super trendy and want a cushion compact foundation that is very a la Korean skincare

Cushion compacts are very in style at the moment thanks to Korean skincare habits and products flooding the market. This product I believe (that I have seen anyway) is the first brand to bring a cushion compact into drugstores and allow consumers to be a part of this movement. Brands such as Laneige, Shisheido, AmorePacific, May Coop and  Dr. Jart all helped launch this movement with promises to help improve sallow skin, buff out imperfections and give that healthy glow backed by hydration and other skincare goodies.

I will preface this post by saying that I love all things L’Oreal. If L’Oreal came out with poop smelling nail polish, I would buy it…probably not BUT you catch my drift. In my eyes they can honestly do no wrong, hence why I rushed to the shelves of my local CVS to grab this. I was so happy to see a high end trend land itself in a more affordable environment as well as see L’Oreal meet the demands of these trends.

I selected W3 which I think is perfect for someone that has a mix of yellow and red undertones who isn’t necessarily pale but is more towards the light – medium range. In the summer time I would probably go up a number or two but for winter this choice gives me a little bit of color without giving my neck and face a disjointed look. The color ranges are separated into  Warm tones – W, Cool tones – C and Neutral tones – N with numbers after each letter to correspond with the shade. When I initially purchased the bottled form I chose one from the neutral set and it was too pink so that was how I figured out that I was better suited for the W range.

The finish is a touch different than the bottle form however, the blendability is 100% the same. I find that the compact is more buildable because the cushion helps dole out just enough to even out and give a glow. I even used to use this when I had my cystic acne because it used to give me a hydrated look and then I would go in and powder it to lock in. No matter how dry I am, this never highlights those patches which I know some foundations do.

For application, I have been using my Beautyblender or my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and both work well, however if you are looking for something SUPER natural, then the Beautyblender should be your pick. The one method I have not tried yet is my fingers which I probably should have done before writing this post, considering that is how most people would think to apply it. The foundation doesn’t slip or slide around which definitely helps cut down on blending time and if you didn’t want to powder it – no harm, no foul.

Lastly, the packaging is UNREAL for travel and carrying in your purse. You can do quick touch ups anywhere without making an absolute mess. At the end of the day – I would recommend this to everyone. It’s a budget offering with a superb range of colors and tones. Even if you feel like you can’t find the perfect shade, these are priced well enough that you can pick up two without breaking the bank.

Here are a few pictures!!

Thanks everyone for reading,

Monday Blues

Monday? Is that you? Again? OYEEEEEE

How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was low key and sort of busy. On Friday night I went home to RI to see my family for dinner and stayed on Saturday as well. Sunday morning I got on the road back to Boston at 6:30AM for a Spin workshop at Boston Sports Club which was about class design, heart rate and cadence. It was super informative but the master instructor’s music WAS GOD AWFUL. I’m sorry  but i Just cannot get motivated by Sarah McLachlan’s “Adia” set to a wicked techno beat. I almost started laughing. Am I immature…probably…but I don’t care. We even did jumps to “Field of Gold” by Sting…I am pretty sure my ears were still bleeding when I left.

Anyways…..I did get my haircut. The sides of my hair just don’t grow like they used to and it’s like my hair is totally different in the back than in the front. In the back there is more weight and just looks healthier while my sides just always look dead. I use It’s a Ten which is such a miracle product and I also use some oil for my ends to keep things coated. I will say my hair makes me feel very self conscious. Every female in my family has thin hair and for me, I love being blonde and having a great blowout but the health of my hair is completely sacrificed. Having short hair is much easier to style and it looks great with some bed head curls! About two years ago I started washing my hair about two days a week which I think has helped its health tremendously. I also think that the water in Boston is just not that great? IDK.

I have minimal photos for all of you today since I spent a lot of my time relaxing with family or doing homework for my finance class! I didn’t even watch the awards last night!

The new hurrrrr

I hope everyone has a great week and I will be back!

Friday’s Fitness Faves

Good afternoon, everybody. Thank the Lord it is Friday. I got my nails done at lunch and have a whole new perspective on life afterwards…funny how that happens after a little pamper session at the end of the week. I figured I would share with all of you some fitness favorites and send you all off with maybe a couple of inspiring moves, tunes and ideas!

Thanks for reading!!

Forearm Stand

I have been working on getting myself into a forearm handstand for quite some time. It is frustrating that every time I get up I get into the pose for less than half a second, I fall. However, yoga is about exploring that fall and welcoming it. I recently came upon this article by Pop Sugar with great poses to help you get ready for a forearm stand. I plan on working on this this weekend a little bit. Here is the article if anyone is interested. I love being upside down and I do enjoy working for it.

Early Morning Workouts

I go through phases with early morning workouts…There are stretches of months where I can’t even fathom getting out of bed before the scheduled time and then there are weeks where getting up 1-2 days a week to work out is no problem. The past two weeks I have gotten up early either on Thursday or Friday to do my own workout – no spin. I find that sometimes when I am at work I get too excited to work out and rush off as soon as the clock strikes 5 and I sort of enjoy the quietness in the morning. In the morning I do feel slightly rushed but then I make sure that I really push it or cut down on the rest time. I am trying to work on going before work because I would like to run a 10 mile road race this summer and getting over and complete in the AM is my preference since getting a glass of wine after work on a hot day is a TOP priority for me!

Favorite Workout Move/s

When I was in Portland I woke up and went to the gym on Saturday morning. The hotel had a pretty decent workout room and so I thought I would sneak in a workout since I knew we were going to be eating all day long. There was a TRX  there which was PERFECT because I have been hitting that shit up for abs! GIRLLLLL, I am always so sore afterwards. My lower abs in particular always feel like they got a good ass whoopin’. These exercises ramp up your typical plank and put some STANK AWN ON IT. I found this little cheat sheet on Pinterest for just some ideas!

Current Favorite Song

Alex Midi – In the Air Tonight (f. Delacey) Since this is a modern day remake of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” I just automatically loved this. I love the original for a heavy climb and this as well for the same choreography but with a little more beat. I also love the female vocalist. It may not suit everyone but it most certainly gets my blood pumpin’

Favorite Lippy For The Gym

Does anyone remember Revlon’s Colorbursts? Well…when they came out I bought them in almost every single color. The color I have on in this photo is Pink Lemonade. Talk about the most perfect peach/light pink. I have been grabbing this after my spin classes just for some hydration and color. I tend to look very washed out and dead with no makeup on so this light lip adds a little bit of vibrance to my face. Today in the car I found it in my jacket instead of my gym bag and I applied it right away.I was at a stop light and just had to get a selfie in real quick with this color!  I love this stuff!

The Full Size Mascara That I Will Buy

For most of you makeup junkies, I’m sure you’re all aware that Marc Jacob’s Film Noir Mascara was offered as a 100 Point Perk this past month. I tend to hoard my points but lunged at this mascara because I am always on the hunt for the bigger, better option. With my lashes my issue is volume. My lashes are pretty spiky but are thick at the roots. Also, they are pin straight. However, I never really look for curling mascaras for some reason. When I picked this up I had no expectations but was BLOWN away. The brush is very thick and has a dip in the middle. I can’t think of a brush that is comparable to but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well it lifted and further volumized my lashes. What I love most is that minimal ‘strokeage’ (if you will) is needed to get a pretty effect. My lashes look a little more flirty and full with a little bit of clump but just the right amount.

I will be picking this up in a full tube. It was worth every use. I thought I should share this with all of you since I know some of us are dedicated to drugstore options or have that perfect mascara routine.

Thanks for reading!

Sort of obsessed with the lift!

Monday Blues

I know I was MIA last week. It was just a killer for me….I had almost no time for myself and was struggling to keep my head afloat. Work was busy and I taught a lot of spin. I went to Portland, Maine for the weekend with Nate and we had such a great time. The timing of the trip could not have been any more perfect – After my tough week, I definitely needed some time with my counterpart.

I think my pictures will make up for the lack of blogging from last week including some make-up pics and lots of shots of food! I hope everyone enjoys my little captions. I enjoyed doing my hair every day and putting on some nice makeup for sightseeing and just being out and about…ain’t no rest for the wicked!

Adorable “kitchen shelf” in one of the hotel’s restaurants. So rustic and organic but home-y. I was in love.

The hotel we stayed at was called “Press” and it used to be an old newspaper factory that was converted into this Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. It was all decorated with words and tons of printing paraphernalia. It was quite the gem.

Our  first drink at the hotel before dinner reservations. This photo was taken at their Inkwell bar.

IThe kitchen of the most amazing restaurant called Fore Street. It was the first restaurant of its kind  with a focus on “farm to table” offerings. It was outrageously expensive but worth ever single penny. If you are ever in the area – this is an absolute must. We saw one of Nate’s cousin’s and his family and they said that Fore Street put Porland on the map for culinary excellence. It was one of the best meals of my life.  The picture does not do it justice.

My Maine oyster selection. Those meaty ones on the left were very bright with a lot of brine. I don’t even use the mignonette…just a little lemon and get to slurpin’

Even though we were stuffed we took chocolates to go. DUH.

Lemon curd french toast with little blueberries and a honey mead mimosa. Don’t be fooled – I had a full eggs dish along with all of this.

Enjoying our last meal before heading home

Our last meal was at DuckFat – holy shit. The heaviest dishes in the world. Everything is “infused” with truffle or something decadent. These fries were called “Poutine” which are fries with cheese, scallions all sitting above a layer of liquid duck fat. So decadent! French fries are my passion and these checked off all of my fries expectations.

I didn’t even know I was taking this good of a picture of him. I could barely see because the sun was in my eyes and he is just so statuesque. Love him.

This was my make up look for the weekend…. warm brown eyes and blush in the color “Stubborn” by MAC. A must have for us blush fanatics. My hair looks TERRIBLE in this shot. I have been really liking not wearing eye liner but keeping everything smudged.
