Happy Easter everybody! After being on hiatus this week I am back today to give you some updates on my life as well as post some favorites and my makeup look from the holiday.
I was up in Maine from Sunday to Thursday training for my new job which was so exhausting but so amazing. I met some people from all over the country and made some friends. We didn’t have training for our positions which was great. Since we were in Maine, I got to unplug and enjoy some fresh air and some amazing views. Friday I had to be in the office for my first official day of work which was exciting but also a little stressful. Since I will be in sales, and it is my first sales position I just want to successful and get into the swing of things. I am a little nervous about my spin schedule because I don’t want to give any of my classes up but feel that I may need to release one for the sake of my career.
Anyways – in my previous job I used to blog at work in my downtime and I am unsure if I will be able to do so with this new position…so the timing of my posts may be a little different. I will probably post later in the evening which I don’t mind because blogging helps me relax and is my creative safe place!
Below I have compiled a few things for everyone to read through. I have a few favorite things I want to share and today’s makeup look! I will be back this week with some updates and posts for you all. Spring is coming and I am so excited for new make up launches and the fashion! I am on the prowl for a cute crossbody bag for summer nights on the town…Furla has my eye… but my wallet is screaming “Hell no girl what are you thinking”
These bracelets I bought from Bauble Bar right after Christmas. These are so fun to pair with other costume jewelry. They are very comfortable to wear but the only issue is that they are already starting to tarnish so I try not to wash my hands when I wear them. These are great conversation pieces and give a little bit of attitude without being too in ya face!
HOLD THE PHONE. I bought these just out of interest. I found these at CVS and always walk by them and think “I wonder if these even work”…so I said to myself, “For 13 bucks I am diving in”. They are so great!!!! I use them every other night and they do just the trick. They help refine my skin’s texture without too much exfoliation. The best part is that I haven’t experienced any irritation. I am interested in other parts of the line but I think if you are on a budget these are a total must!
Recently I decided to give my nails a break and so I have been doing my nails instead of getting gel. I wasn’t missing doing my own nails, but I did feel like my nails needed a rest. Also, until I start making my commission at work, I figured I would cut down on costs a little bit and just do them myself. I will admit, I do like doing my nails and I am drawn to nudes because if they chip it can be a little harder to tell. Also, nudes are ALWAYS safe and professional and can be a little more intriguing than trendy colors (not saying I don’t do those too) because they’re simple. On my favorites is Essie’s East Hampton Cottage, featured below. In the photo I included my go-to nail products. If you don’t buff your nails, you can experience chips sooner than expected and a good base and top coat are essential!
Well thank you all for reading! I hope this post was saturated with some good content for you all to satisfy your beauty cravings! I will see you this week at some point. I hope everyone has a great week.
Thanks for reading
Happy Weekend! I am coming at you with a few purchases that I literally just made that may be of interest to all of you. I figured I would give you guys a weekend post because this coming week I have training for work in the middle of nowhere in Maine, so I am not sure if I will be able to write out some posts or even have wifi (the horror).
The products I am about to feature are a mix of things I have purchased before and new items I’ve never tried. I made a trip to CVS this morning and thought I would just feature a little mini haul for all of you!
Seche Vite Base Coat and Dry Fast Top Coat
I have bought numerous of these magical bottles. The base coat is infamous for filling in ridges and helping your nail polish look smooth and professionally done. I have used Essie’s base coats and Orly’s but nothing compares to the Seche Vite. This also goes for the fast dry top coat. This stuff is so serious. Whatever you are currently using – get rid of and pick one of these up. In college my roommate and I always had “nail dates” a couple of nights a week and this stuff was always the cherry on top (and still is) to my manicure routine. I recently took my gel off my nails because my nails feel week and I honestly miss doing my own because I find it quite calming. So that being said – I needed to obtain fresh bottles to get motivated for doing my own.
L’Oreal Million Lashes False Fiber Lashes
To be honest, I didn’t need this but I always need to have a tube of it handy no matter what my current mascara routine is. Currently I am finishing up my Marc Jacobs sample and alternating that with my Bobbi Brown Smoky Lash and MAC Extended Play. I haven’t own this for awhile because the last one I purchased seemed to possibly have a different formula. It didn’t separate or volumize (or it felt that way) like it usually did but it also could have been because my lashes do go through weird growth phases. So, we’ll see!
Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo & Conditioner
NOW these are the new purchases. I originally went to CVS to grab Redken’s anti-snap because I feel like my hair is giving me a big SOS lately. I have used Pureology’s products in the past and they are so good but way too expensive…but when I went looking for Redken’s Anti-Snap they only carried the detangler so when I saw the Pureology line I took it as a sign to spend the extra dough. My hair is so so fine and not to mention damaged so I didn’t want a product that is moisturizing or hydrating, but rather something good for strengthening and repairing. I think I will be happy with this stuff since I have used their volumizing line and fell in love but just couldn’t work with the price point!

Happy Thursday! Only one more day until the weekend. Hopefully all of you have made it through your week successfully and have had equal parts work and play. My last day at my job was yesterday so I decided to head home to RI for a couple of days off to be with my boyfriend and family before I head up to Maine for training for the week. I needed this break. With daylight savings and the sort of crappy weather I have felt really rundown hence this post for you all today. Yesterday when I was packing I had the brilliant idea to do a really nice spa night for myself, so I rounded up all the products for you all to see that I am planning on using this evening!
Since I will probably start with a bath and I don’t have make up on, I will just wash my face with my Caudalie Cleansing Milk sample. I would love to buy a full size of this since it is so gentle. After I get out of the bath, I will tone with Pixi’s Glow Tonic (one of the best in the biz) to help exfoliate and balance my skin’s Ph. Once my skin dries, I will use my Sephora sheet mask for anti-aging and smoothing. I love the Sephora masks. I typically grab the perfecting and brightening (light pink) but I wanted to try the orange one. I feel like I need a little lift if you know what I mean. After I bask in that wet, gloopy mess, I will use my May Coop Raw Sauce as an essence and hydrating toner. A large bottle of this is only $40 and I think the world of this stuff. It feels so cooling on the skin and is almost like a jelly serum! This is a great Korean offering. As soon as my skin feels more tacky than wet, I will take a couple of drops of my Luna Sleeping Oil and mix it with my Glam Glow hydrating mask. Writing all of this into a post has made me want to head upstairs and get crackin’ right this second!
The last item I have in the picture that I haven’t talked about is this CAVIAR Repair Lengthening Hair and Scalp Elixir. I have had this sample for awhile and have been looking for the right time to start it. I will have to report back! I am a sucker for anything that promises stronger strands!
Thanks everyone for reading. I hope this post has inspired some of you to maybe cancel your Thursday night plans and opt for a DIY spa treatment!
Thanks for reading,
With the Northeast experiencing some awesome spring temperatures as of late, how can a girl not be inspired to pick up makeup with that fresh bloom effect? This past week I started grabbing my very pink blushes and keeping my base fresh. Below is the routine.
I have started to forgo base and just use concealer. I have just started to crave a lighter base and use up some of my concealers. Also with daylight savings, I always take awhile to get into the swing of things so I tend to sleep in longer and take less time for my makeup.
I have been using my Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer. It’s so good for under eyes. It blends like a dream and has great coverage. It’s pretty thin and you can apply as much as you want without creasing. When I finish this stuff, I will definitely repurchase. This tube is a little light for me but does just the trick.
After I apply my concealer I apply mascara to the top and bottom and filling in my brows with Anastasia Brow Whiz in Soft Brown. This way I have some definition to my eye area without blending in eye shadow and using liner. Sometimes all you need is a little mascara! The mascara I used was my Bobbi Brown Smoky Lash, which I didn’t picture here because I wanted this post to be mostly about skin.
After the eyes – I move on my to cheeks (MY FAVORITE PART OF MY MAKEUP). I started with Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder and just went to town with the hollows of my cheeks, temples, and jawline. When I wear a pink blush I need some warmth and I have been grabbing this powder.
Following the contouring, I have been using my NARS blush in Mata Hari to achieve this really pink, fresh-look. It is quite pink and can be a little intimidating if you aren’t really a blush person. I tend to take risks with my blush because I have a full face and lack in other areas like having full lips or big eyes so I really gravitate towards colorful cheeks. This stuff is so pigmented so you obviously need a very small amount. NARS blushes are so easy to blend so even if you put too much on, you’re not doomed.
For a final touch, I used my Hourglass palette with three powders that can be used to highlight or set. I used the color in the middle just for the tops of my cheek bones for a little glow but I didn’t set the makeup. I wanted to keep things very glowy and just let my face oils emerge throughout the day. Also because NARS blushes are powder, they can go on a little chalky so a light hand and faith in your own oils can help the color as the day goes on.
Thank you everyone for reading. I hope that with spring well on its way this can inspire some of you do ditch the matte looks and jump into something girly and fun…not to mention SUPER EASY!!!!!
Good morning everybody. This week I have flocked to the same three items for eyeshadow. I tend to favor the number 3 with my make-up now that I think about it. I always use three mascaras, three cheek products (bronzer, highlight and blush) and now three eyeshadows. Even my soccer jersey was number 3. ANYWAYS – this is all super irrelevant since no one probably cares.
My thought process behind the trinity of products is that I like a cream as a base, a powder on top to set and another powder for dimension.
Cream as a base…
I use MAC’s Paint Pot in Vintage Selection. This color is everything. It’s silver, purple, shimmery, with pretty flecks and almost metallic. For any color eyes you cannot go wrong with this product. I know MAC’s Paint Pots are totally hit or miss but I think for the spring Vintage Selection is just perfect. It creates some intrigue to the eyes and is perfect for day. On my brown eyes it comes up a bit purple but changes in different lighting. I smudge this all over my lid and a little over my crease and take it under the eye with a smudger brush. This alone is very pretty.
Powder on top to enhance and set…
Satin Taupe is perfect to lay over this shade. When I first purchased Satin Taupe I asked the MAC girl to suggest a good cream shadow for underneath. She marched right over and grabbed Vintage Selection. I never wear one without the other. I take Satin Taupe on a dense, flat brush and push it over the top of the cream and also take the same smudger brush and run it along the lower lash line. Having the powder on top gives it almost a mermaid feel – super pigmented and jaw dropping from every angle.
A deeper powder to top it off…
Laura Mercier’s African Violets is the most beautiful deep purple that I place right in the center of my lid and on the outskirts of my lower lashline. This helps pick up the purple hues in the other two products and creates this super saturated smokey eye. You can leave African Violets out, but I do love how this amps the look up a little bit. I think its so pretty on the bottom eyelid and is refreshing compared to a heavy brown or black.
These colors make me so happy and I love shopping my stash. I haven’t worn these in awhile and since I started wearing them on Monday, I haven’t been able to stop. I also haven’t worn eyeliner and have used this trifecta instead to create smoke and definition. I have been wearing my more purple blushes like Outpsoken by Marc Jacobs and Well Dressed by MAC with a lot of pink highlighter and nude gloss. What I also love about this eye look is that it transitions beautifully to night without much upkeep or need for enhancing!
Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great weekend,
Since I went to NYC in October and visited Bergdorf Goodman I have been obsessing over buying myself some Tilbury makeup bits. Last week I just caved and made quite the order on Nordstrom.com. Keep reading for the full review…
I’ll start with the mascara. Her Full Fat Lashes has interested me for quite some time. Whenever she uses it in her makeup tutorials I always gush at how the model’s lashes look. Plus CT is quite the marketing guru for her products. The tag line for this is that it does five things in one tube – separate, define, volumize, curl and drama. Because I’m always on the hunt for the next best mascara for my straight and pointy lashes, I ordered this with joy….however…I am returning it. NOT ENOUGH VOLUME OR CURL OR DRAMA FOR ME. I think I am definitely in the minority of people who would return this, but it just didn’t do it for me. For $27 bucks I could take my money and head to CVS and get L’Oreal Million Lashes or Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara. Kind of a bummer.
Moving on – Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock N Kohl Eyeliner Barbarella Brown. From reading the reviews online and sitting in front of the computer for hours on end watching her signature cat-eye, feline flick looks I couldn’t help but order the Barbarella Brown eyeliner. When she creates that super-tight winged look on blue eyes, I instantly want to order fake-blue contacts and lock myself in my room perfecting my skills. I will say – I was deceived again with this product. When I wore it the other night on my lower lash line, it was too much for me…It is a very deep, dark brown that is still a few notches away from black but did not even hold a candle to my MAC Costa Riche eyeliner. Yea this CT offering applies easily but blending it is a total BIOTCH and the color just didn’t sing to me. I will say the lasting power was 100% there but I couldn’t get passed the un-blendability. I will ALSO be returning this.
In NYC I bought one of her cream eyeshadows in Bette which is a super rich, gold that stays put all day. The pigment is untouched by other brands and looks good on everyone. I decided for this haul to try her Color Chameleon stick in Champagne Diamonds. I have worn it the past three days and it is definitely more of a night feature. There is shimmer in it…and I mean glitter as well…Like flecks of glitter. The color payoff is there but the glitter for me is just TOO MUCH. Also, if you blend too hard with your fingers, the product slips around and creases so you need a very light touch or blend it with another color to go over the top. I think if you have big eyes and work in an environment where this sort of glittery/flirty look is acceptable…then go for it. I would honestly rather stick with my By Terry Ombre Blackstars or my Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. Unfortunately – this will be returned as well.
Now on to the stuff I LOVED right away. I bought the blush and the lipstick in a two-piece set. These were hands down the best products of the haul. I had small expectations for the blush. Because my collection is quite large, I was honestly ready to return it but it wow’d me. CT’s slogan “Swish and Pop” is so clever. On the perimeter you have a pretty, dusty pink/mauve with a darker shade in the middle. Mixed together the color is beautiful and I can honestly say I don’t have a blush color like this in my collection. It isn’t too chalky and has a little bit of shimmer running through it. I love the name as well – First Love.
The blush came with the lipstick Nude Kate which I have been coveting for quite some time. I own Penelope Pink which is such a great nude but the Nude Kate color is a little bit more peachy and just glides on. They smell just like MAC lipsticks but are more durable and have better color payoff. Nude Kate with the First Love blush – God that was such a brilliant pairing! If you are new CT and don’t know what to get – indulge in this set. You will not regret it!!!
My takeaways: I think part of the reason for my dissatisfaction with some of these products is that there are no Charlotte Tilbury counters anywhere besides Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. You have to purchase everything online which is so ridiculous. Her products would do so well in department stores across the country since they are not too expensive but are very Hollywood glamour. Her branding is SO unique and she is quite brilliant so it is frustrating to not see her products in the flesh. I think if I was at a CT counter I would have been able to try the products I am now returning!
If you don’t know where to start with her range, get a lipstick! You’ll fall in love. Also her cream eyeshadows are just UNTOUCHED and last forever. If you visit her website you can watch videos of her making up models with her “iconic looks”. There is something for everyone!
I hope some of you found this helpful and I could help steer you in the right direction!
HELLO WORLD and HELLO MONDAY!
I hope everyone in the Northeast enjoyed another beautiful winter weekend…cold and sunshine. I just love it! 35 degrees for me just makes me feel so alive and it is just SUCH great sleeping weather. I actually have had some difficulty staying asleep lately and the colder than normal temps I think help me. I am shamefully a nude sleeper because I just GET TOO HOT. I would like to think this is because I am in good shape but it could “just be me”. I also always have to pee in the middle of night which is definitely attributed to the 5-6 liters of water I drink a day!
But anyways! This week I have a couple of good posts planned for you all that I think you all will enjoy! 🙂
Before I start my new job I am going to try to spend a little extra time on myself (and probably some money) so I will hopefully be getting some more substantial posts to slip into your feeds! I have only a couple of things for you all to nosh on today.
I found this one very interesting article from Greatist.com. I have really taken a liking to this website because it really covers everything in fun, original articles. Anyone of any age, fitness level or fitness interest can find something here that can speak to them. The link I included is so interesting and speaks about how fat loss can be linked to the quality and quantity of your sleep, how more cardio does not mean more weight loss and ultimately how your food cravings can be impacted by your workout routine. I clicked on this because I will be honest – I am trying to lose weight but I STRUGGLE. I have no more than 6 drinks a week (that’s even a stretch), I teach spin three nights a week and I eat MOSTLY healthy…but that back fat and pooch still hang around. I do think that my amount of spinning plays a role because its such a calorie burner but then I am starving – like so friggen hungry after class. I wish I could lift more, but finding the time is SO difficult when you work 40 hours a week, are in grad school, are balancing family and a long distance relationship and are already at the gym for 45 minutes sweating your ass off… I need to revamp my schedule and find out how to get in more strength and make it to actual yoga classes without doing them at my home! I am determined to cut some of the bloat and look good this summer!
Thank you everyone for reading!
Have a great week
This is the foundation for you if you…
A. Have a small obsession with the normal L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation
B. Are super trendy and want a cushion compact foundation that is very a la Korean skincare
Cushion compacts are very in style at the moment thanks to Korean skincare habits and products flooding the market. This product I believe (that I have seen anyway) is the first brand to bring a cushion compact into drugstores and allow consumers to be a part of this movement. Brands such as Laneige, Shisheido, AmorePacific, May Coop and Dr. Jart all helped launch this movement with promises to help improve sallow skin, buff out imperfections and give that healthy glow backed by hydration and other skincare goodies.
I will preface this post by saying that I love all things L’Oreal. If L’Oreal came out with poop smelling nail polish, I would buy it…probably not BUT you catch my drift. In my eyes they can honestly do no wrong, hence why I rushed to the shelves of my local CVS to grab this. I was so happy to see a high end trend land itself in a more affordable environment as well as see L’Oreal meet the demands of these trends.
I selected W3 which I think is perfect for someone that has a mix of yellow and red undertones who isn’t necessarily pale but is more towards the light – medium range. In the summer time I would probably go up a number or two but for winter this choice gives me a little bit of color without giving my neck and face a disjointed look. The color ranges are separated into Warm tones – W, Cool tones – C and Neutral tones – N with numbers after each letter to correspond with the shade. When I initially purchased the bottled form I chose one from the neutral set and it was too pink so that was how I figured out that I was better suited for the W range.
The finish is a touch different than the bottle form however, the blendability is 100% the same. I find that the compact is more buildable because the cushion helps dole out just enough to even out and give a glow. I even used to use this when I had my cystic acne because it used to give me a hydrated look and then I would go in and powder it to lock in. No matter how dry I am, this never highlights those patches which I know some foundations do.
For application, I have been using my Beautyblender or my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and both work well, however if you are looking for something SUPER natural, then the Beautyblender should be your pick. The one method I have not tried yet is my fingers which I probably should have done before writing this post, considering that is how most people would think to apply it. The foundation doesn’t slip or slide around which definitely helps cut down on blending time and if you didn’t want to powder it – no harm, no foul.
Lastly, the packaging is UNREAL for travel and carrying in your purse. You can do quick touch ups anywhere without making an absolute mess. At the end of the day – I would recommend this to everyone. It’s a budget offering with a superb range of colors and tones. Even if you feel like you can’t find the perfect shade, these are priced well enough that you can pick up two without breaking the bank.
Here are a few pictures!!
